Closer to Home

The weather, after being so glorious for a week or so, turned chilly and wet again this week. We had days of snow and hail, frozen murky puddles and lots of bluster. We still go out in that weather (important to eek as much vitamin D out of life as possible when you live in Scotland!) but wrap up warm and stay closer to home.

Rice cakes are an important bus snack.

The library is a hot destination for us just lately, and Audrey loves it as much as ever.

I can't tell you what it means to me to see her love of books.

She's such a happy person, it does my heart good. Look at her smiling here until - gasp! - she noticed the bigger children watching her.

Although she can be a little shy, mostly she's fascinated by bigger children. She slowly walked towards them, stopped a safe distance away, and started grinning again and proudly showing off the plastic hoops she carried all by herself.

There's a butterfly mobile hanging from the ceiling, made out of wire coat hangers and pictures the older children have drawn of butterflies. It's been there for months, but still every time Audrey sees it she is totally amazed.

Oh Audrey. Even when the weather's nasty, I love our outings together.

  1. That mustache top she's wearing is amazing!

I love the photo of her pointing at the mobile, so so cute.
