Poppies in June

I just heard that my cousin Charlotte has just had her baby - a little girl named Poppy Elizabeth!

I found out she was pregnant when I was 12 weeks along with Audrey and have enjoyed the lovely timing, knowing that we were going through things at roughly the same time. I've been so excited for her and her family.

My family is what you might call extended, although I like to call it sprawling. Like a city, growing and changing with its own little communities. When I was young I used to visit my third cousins James and Libby, roughly the same age as me and my sister Kate. It was fun to visit them, we were friends. They're awesome people, and I have so many great memories thanks to them.

Audrey has a lot of third cousins, now including Poppy who is seven weeks younger than her. I really hope that one day they will meet and be friends, create their own little suburb in our haphazard and wonderfully eccentric metropolis.

Lying down to feed saved my sanity and I fed Reece to 14 months and Xavier for far longer than the norm. You may have already got it already so tell me to shut up!
You made it pass the hardest times not many do past 2 weeks let alone 6 weeks so well done really fantastic.
What is your goal? if you have one? I hope you don't mind me asking? I was so lucky to have so much help with Breast feeding and support here in Oz was so much better than in the UK.
When I had Loz it was lacking from the hospitals, friends and family were very different but I do think that's changed since a little.
Ok gone on to long things to do Love you fro Gillian xxx

  2. Thanks Gillian, the breastfeeding has been tough at times, and I've definitely felt a bit left to work things out by myself, but it is so worth it and really bonding, on top of all the health benefits of course :) Right now I'm aiming for at least a year and then to see how it goes from there. It seems like such a long way away but I'm sure the time will pass so quickly.

I have been doing the lying down to feed and, as you say, it is an absolute life saver! Especially at night, when both of us are only half awake. It's the quickest way to get her back to sleep again, especially as we cosleep.

It's really awesome that you breastfed your boys for so long :) Did you find it difficult? We've managed to have mastitis and thrush so far, but otherwise I think we've been lucky because it has gone well.

Lots of love to you and the family xx.

  3. A year's a great target, but if it feel's to far away right now take it to 6 months for now and see how you feel.
I found after that 6 weeks growth spurt you settle in and after 4 months your a pro.
Having thrush can be painful so keep an eye on that, as that will not be helping with the pain, but it should settle if it doesn't then get it checked again.
Mastitis was my main issue, Do you have a pump? because for me that helped to pump the blockage out (be very gentle though) sometimes and drink plenty of water!

    Did you find it difficult?
Yes, With Reece I did he had a tongue tie which really didn't help once that was sorted it was fine. With Xavier he was a pro from day 1 and I had the confidence to trust what I was doing and trust my supply to feed my baby.
Xavier never had a bottle (tell a lie he had a mouthful of formula and was nearly sick! cant say I blame him ).
I never took any suppose supply helpers (fenugreek it has traces of nicotine in it !! Fab hey!) or anything on those lines and he thrived.
I just ate well but, also keeping up your water is the most important.
I use to get my book, Phone, Glass of water and go and feed because as soon as I started to feed Id get a phone call or get thirsty lol
Audrey is thriving and is growing so well so you should be so so proud of yourself I sure am and I just love seeing the photos hope I wrote something that helps take care
    Love GIllian xxx
