Nana Betty's House

Right now Audrey is into everything and constantly on the go, which doesn't leave much time for blogging! As I'm typing this she is tipping absolutely everything she can get her hands on onto the floor and drawing on things with whiteboard marker, while saying "Mama Mama Mama Mama Mama" over and over and then waving at me every time I say "Yes?"

It's a pretty fantastic fun game :) Besides, our window ledges needed a little artistic flair and colour (and wipe clean very easily).

Recently we went to stay with Audrey's Great Nana Betty for the weekend, and had the most wonderful time. The light is so low at this time of year that I only have a handful of usable photos, and none of Uncle Peter who was with us several times during the weekend and drove us to and from the station and all sorts. We're very, very grateful to him, especially after Audrey got travel sick all over his car. Ooops! Uncle Peter - we need to get photos next time!

Little lady has had a nasty bout of croup which she was only just recovering from when we went to Nana's house. She traveled on the train like a charm, so sweet and no bother at all. Our trick is not to think for one moment that she'll be happy just sitting there for four hours. I'm not happy with it, so why would she be! We pack lots of things to do, books and colouring pens being the favourites, and plenty of snacks and drinks, and we're prepared to hold her hand and wander up and down the train looking at things for as long as she wants to. Things of particular interest to Audrey: doors, especially doors between carriages; windows, especially if there are sheep, planes or rivers/ponds/the ocean outside; ticket inspectors, she likes to hold out the ticket and say "thank you" if we pass them; people. Any people, all the time. "Look! People! Hello People."

She's so gorgeous. Once at Nana's house we spent as much time as possible outdoors, which was a fair amount considering how sick Audrey was before we went (and me too by this point).

There were so many low flying aircraft passing by that weekend, we were sure there must be an airshow nearby. Audrey was DELIGHTED. She loves planes like you wouldn't believe - above is her doing her impression of a plane, holding her arms out and yelling "Flying!" as she whirls around. She spots a plane before anyone, and stares at it in absolute wonder until it's gone. There's nothing she loves more.

My Nana's garden is so full of memories for me that it's strange and quite emotional to see Audrey playing there. I can remember so many summers of my sisters and I racing scooters precariously around the narrow paths with the cousins.

We had lunch at the Harvester opposite my Nana's house quite a few times while we were there, as they had food that everyone could eat and enjoy and it meant my Nana didn't have to cook so much. The staff there were so very friendly even when it was busy, and on one of the days Audrey got a special orange balloon which she adored. Seriously, this was the best thing she'd ever been given. She didn't let it out of her sight for one moment, she even took it to bed with her that night.

You can see where I get all my impressive height from, right? My Nana and I are actually the same height and have the same shoe size!

Despite the illness, we really did have a special weekend.

Audrey loved to sit with Nana, one of each chair beside the fire in the kitchen. If Nana got up to do anything, Audrey would tell her off very sternly and lead her back to the chair and tell her to "Sit down, Nana!"

On the last morning before we left, Audrey and I walked in the copse of trees at the back of my Nana's garden which borders onto her land. I used to climb these trees.

All right, since little missy me has just climbed into a rabbit cage I think I'd better go play. Who can resist this much fun?
