New

Yesterday Ros, Audrey and I went into town for the day. We went shopping for adorable little toddler clothes, because Audrey is growing like a weed and has almost nothing in the next size up.

One of the things we got was a tiny set of grown-up pyjamas, ones with rocket ships on and buttons down the front. It's still a little big on her - the trousers need to be rolled up a bit at the ankles - but she proudly wore it to bed last night and looked like such a proper little child that I felt actually tearful with it.

It all goes so fast. Last night I wanted everything to slow down, even to stop for a while. I wanted to bask in every single second of her littleness; her tiny, sleepy self with her warm, clinging little hands and her rocket ship pjs.

This morning she's playing with her building blocks, making a huge and very precarious tower. "Yellow," she says, proudly holding up a yellow block to show me.

There's a bump on her forehead where she fell over on the concrete steps outside our house yesterday. It was a nasty bump, so we took her along to the pharmacy drop in to ask for advice. The pharmacist was lovely and reassuring, and said to keep an eye on her but that she was showing no signs of concussion. There's something so raw and frightening there when your child gets hurt, even when you know they're okay really.

She was oh so clingy and cuddly afterwards. At times like that, I feel most like a real mama.

Earlier in the week we visited our friends Kitty and Jasmine. Audrey collected a bouquet of twigs.

When we got there it rained and rained, and Audrey was tired and grouchy with poor, sweet Kitty - who shared her toys so beautifully with Audrey, and ended up stroking Audrey's hair as she fell asleep for a little much-needed nap.

They played with bubbles!

On the way home the sun was low and autumn coloured, and Audrey was still really sleepy. Everywhere was wet from the heavy rain. Audrey ate a yummy oat biscuit.

Today we're going on an adventure. I'll tell you all about it when we get back!

Have a day full of twig bouquets and rocket ship jammies, everyone.
