Videos!

Here are some videos of Audrey having fun while her parents make fools of themselves trying to make her smile. I especially love Ian's cancan video. Enjoy!

Five month munchkin

Audrey turned 5 months old yesterday. I'm sure at some point I will stop counting each month like a milestone, but that point is still a long way off! We spent the day at my work and Audrey had a great time looking at all the bunnies and other little animals, and saying hi to the volunteers. She's such an absolute joy to be with, so much fun and so, so sweet. She grips tightly onto me when I carry her now, and her face lights up whenever she sees me.
She's been feeding a lot at night lately. I think it may be a growth spurt coming on. As much as it's annoying to be so tired, it's also a wonderful time lying side by side in the dark and the quiet, listening to the sounds of her feeding, her little body tucked up so close and warm. This is a time that I'll never get back again. I'm in no hurry to see it go, even if it would be nice to get a full night's sleep from time to time.

She grins all the time, big open-mouthed smiles with bursts of her ridiculous laughter. She especially loves it if you play with her legs and feet, a bit of cancan dancing is always sure to make her giggle.

Ok, I have to go. Sleepy wee five month old awaits. Night night, everyone!

Great Adventures

We had a great weekend with lots of adventures. On Saturday we went to a nearly new sale for baby things and got Audrey some cool new toys, then we stopped in at the museum in town.

Audrey was a bit more interested in staring at her dad than looking at the exhibits.

It was a spur of the moment decision to go to the museum. We were on our way to our friend Graham's house and passing by when Ian suggested we pop in and have a look around, as neither of us have been in ages.

She gets bored so easily lately, so it's great to take her out to places where she can have a good look around and investigate things.

We then went to our friend Graham's house for the rest of the afternoon. Spending time with friends and family is brilliant. I love that Audrey will grow up knowing these people.
On Monday we met up with Ian's friend Mikey, who was in town for the university open day.

It was a long day and we saw a lot of the city. Audrey had a few good naps while we were out.

We saw lots of the city, and Ian took pictures of Audrey and I from the Scott monument.

Oh Audrey Bea. What great adventures we have.

Heady

Today as I walked home from the breastfeeding group we go to, Audrey fell asleep in the carrier as she often does. We got home, I shut the door quietly behind us, gently untucked the fabric of the carrier from around her, and carried her upstairs to bed curled against my chest, her little warm hands resting on my skin, her breath soft and sweet and even. I tried to think of a word to describe it, as I laid her down on the green cot sheets and draped layer after layer of soft, pale, hand made blankets over her little sleeping body. A word that would encapsulate that feeling of motherhood that I had at that moment, that intoxicating, dizzy moment of knowing with everything in me that I'm a mother, and how overwhelming that felt. Heady, maybe.

Heady - potent; intoxicating; having a strong or exhilerating effect.

Yeah, that'll do.
We've had a lot of first lately. Audrey's first tooth is poking through the gums at the front of her mouth. She had her first dance, waltzing around with our friend Andy in the supermarket foyer while an old man played tunes on an old keyboard to raise money for war veterans.
She's started pulling herself up to sitting, rolling over, picking things up and putting them down, and she laughs. She laughs so much and it's absolutely joyful and beautiful and infectious, and then she gets this odd little look like she can't believe how loud we're laughing every time she laughs.

Did I mention she's a geek in training? Cos she is. Our friend Bex gave her this gorgeous Star Trek costume <3

Play time! Which has been greatly enhanced by the recent acquisition of this:

She adores Shambles. Especially pulling great handfuls of his fur out! Oops. Little bruiser.

I remember when you could barely see her when we had her in the baby carrier.

She's in 6-9 month size clothes already!

Oh Audrey! I love being your mum. It's a wonderful feeling. Overwhelming. Heady.
