Play Dough

Today I'm feeling a bit under the weather, and we've had a few weeks absolutely packed with activities, so today we're taking things easy. Just slowing the pace a little. This is a tricky thing to do with a toddler about!

Audrey is really into Curious George lately, and also really into the sea side. This morning she asked to watch an episode of Curious George where he goes to the beach. While she watched I set up a little play area with a simple play dough beach for her to play with, with some of our souvenirs from trips to the coast over the last few weeks with friends - shells, rocks, a Scottish flag.

Audrey had a lot of fun standing the coloured match sticks up in the play dough, and pushing the shells into it to make different patterns.

Audrey isn't the biggest fan of play dough all by itself, which is a shame as it is creative and a great sensory toy. I've actually wasted a lot of time in the past making home made play dough for her, only to have it entirely ignored! I've found the best way to get her engaged with it is to make it a part of a bigger game, something that grabs her interest.

I love these quiet, open ended activities which really capture her attention. It's cute to see her working so hard, really concentrating on her game.
